Why criteria matter more than a specific name
Recommending or ranking specific clinics may not fit your individual tooth condition, and circumstances can change over time. Having your own criteria to check during consultation is more useful no matter which clinic you visit.
Questions to ask during consultation
- Do they explain specifically why (or why not) reduction is needed for your teeth?
- Do they show the reasoning behind the recommended count and shade, e.g. via smile line or color comparisons?
- Do they proactively mention possible side effects or the chance of a redo?
- Do they clearly explain the timeline and number of visits needed?
Mock-ups and simulations
A mock-up is a temporary in-mouth preview of the expected shape before final bonding, while a digital simulation previews results from scan data. Whether a clinic offers and clearly explains these can be a useful signal of how thorough the consultation is — though a simulation image can't be assumed to exactly match the final result.
Lab information
Veneer shells are often made by an outside dental lab rather than the clinic itself. It helps to understand what material is used, whether the lab is domestic or overseas, and roughly how long fabrication takes, as this clarifies the overall process.
Warranty policy and photo records
It matters whether the clinic can show you, in writing or clear explanation, how they handle a veneer coming off or chipping, and what the warranty period and conditions are. Systematic before/after photo record-keeping can also help communication if an issue comes up later.
- 01Gather information
Compare consultation approaches and materials across a few clinics.
- 02Prepare questions
Use this checklist to build a specific list of questions.
- 03Go through consultation
Directly check answers on mock-ups, lab info, and warranty policy.
- 04Compare notes
Organize what you learned and any photos to inform your decision.
- If a price stands out as unusually low, ask specifically why
- Claims of guaranteed results should be treated with caution given how medical advertising works
- If a consultation feels rushed or questions aren't answered specifically, it's worth comparing with another clinic
